Abstract

Our Secrets for Excellence with the Straight-Wire Technique

The treatment philosophy according to McLaughlin, Bennet and Trevisi is our starting point, the predictability of the result and the quality of the functional and aesthetic finishing are our objectives. Starting from these assumptions, we present the changes to the original technique, such as a modification of the original prescription, a new arch shape and all the clinical procedures implemented during over 30 years of clinical experience in Straight-Wire technique. The presentation aims to offer participants, through a rigorous clinical path, a series of information on the potential and reproducibility of the technique and on why the proposed modifications and clinical suggestions can be a clinically and ethically rewarding choice. Specifically, it will be explained which details need to be paid attention to during the different orthodontic treatment stages, the importance of the orthodontic archwire characteristics (alloy and size) and a systematic finishing protocol will be shared.
